Owner Larry Froley established Gray Whale Paddle in 1992, primarily as a kayak business., but by about 2000 had shifted to paddleboarding, and within a few years was solely a paddleboard business. About that same time GWP partnered with Chesapeake Light Craft in Annapolis, Maryland to create the San O’ series prone paddleboards and, a few years later, the Kaholo series SUP; both are sold as wood kits. Larry instructs wood paddleboard building classes in partnership with the Tahoe Maritime Center.
Larry has tons of experience paddling and racing both prone boards and SUP, as well as instructing SUP, and is additionally a certified personal trainer and sports nutritionist. Larry has an extensive background in boating/aquatic safety/law enforcement, and is also A PSUPA Advisory Board member.
